Copy and Paste Won’t Work with Text Highlighted
OK, some of the other tips on Geeky Drunk have actual answers, but we’re stuck on this one. It happens on our Vista desktop and Vista laptop / tablet pc. When I copy some text, I first highlight it and then right click and select “copy.” Then I go to the other program I want to use the text in, click where I want the text to go, and then right click and select “paste.” The problem is if I don’t un-highlight the text before I paste, it doesn’t work. You can’t paste text without first un-highlighting the text! Stupid!
It took a while to figure this out, but it is very consistent and happens on two different computers. Anyone else have this copy and paste / cut and paste problem, or better yet a solution? I hate having to deselect the text every time I want to paste.
Fortunately, my iPhone doesn’t have this problem, but then again it can’t even copy and paste . . .

I just started to have that problem today as well. My VIsta’s been having more and more problems, frist can’t open properties, then network center, crackling sound unless I use mediaplayer, and now C&P.
The only thing I think could have caused it for me is Vista tweaking that I did online by Blackwidow or someone. Maybe untweaking would work…but would slow the hell out of my comp =(
Thanks for the comment. I haven’t tweaked either computer, so I wonder if that is the problem or not. On my laptop I started having another very weird error where I can’t open any attachment in Outlook 2007. I try to open a word attachment and Word opens with a blank page! I have to save each attached file from emails to my desktop and then open it. Maybe your nickname is appropriate…
Who uses right click to copy/paste? I thought everyone geeky uses CTRL+C / CTRL+V, have you tried these keyboard shortcuts to see if they have the same problem? Or how about highlight and drag / drop?
Doesn’t make a difference with CTRL C / V….will try highlight and drag and drop, but come on zenweezil, it shouldn’t be that hard. Thanks for the comment brother-in-law ha.
