Drew Carey Should Quit His Day Job
As a long time Price is Right fan and a formerly hopeful wannabe Drew Carey fan, I have to let this out right here and right now. On behalf of America, humanity and loyal The Price is Right fans - it’s time to quit your day job Drew. You’re just not cutting it, not even close.
This isn’t coming from a fly by night observer. My mom still swears that the first words I spoke as a child were “Ba Babar” - yup, I said Bob Barker’s name before “Ma Ma.” I guess mommy shouldn’t have let me watch so much Price is Right. Besides Sesame Street and Mister Rogers, I remember Bob and “The Big Wheel” being my favorite TV show. About thirty years later I visited California just to attend a taping of The Price is Right, the year before Bob retired, and it’s a moment I’ll never forget.
I’ll be honest and admit I removed The Price is Right from my Tivo Season Pass after Bob Barker retired and the re-runs were on for several months. When October of 2007 rolled around, I did watch the first several episodes with new host Drew Carey. I felt it wasn’t the same, but wasn’t as bad as it could be.
Looking back, leaking the news that Rosie O’Donnell could possibly replace Bob Barker on The Price is Right was the best thing that CBS and TPIR could have done. Anyone is better than Rosie. So, after the first episode with Drew your left thinking…well he’s better than that bitch Rosie would have been.
I guess Drew Carey is funny. He is a famous stand-up comedian and I kind of liked his stuff. He did a good job as host of the improv show “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” However, therefore, please do note….
Sitting at a table and making fun of improv performances, or adding a joke or two, is no way even remotely close to hosting The Price is Right. Sure, Bob Barker had many years to improve his craft before the majority of us watched the show for the first time. But it doesn’t matter - Bob Barker is naturally funny. He doesn’t need to think of jokes. Bob can just look at you and you know the joke. A lot of Drew’s jokes are making fun of the fact he is a game show host! (or apologizing and mumbling like he did tonight)
Bob was the ideal game show host. He could play off of basically any contestant, any mishap, and always come out shining. He is the master of class, the Italian … well a bunch of other boxing phrases, but the two words that come to mind the most are:
SMOOTH
and
CLASSY
Bob Barker will never be replaced. Unfortunately, Drew Carey doesn’t even come 0.01% close to matching the skills of Bob Barker. I just got done watching the Wednesday night prime time “Million Dollar” Price is Right and he was lack luster, un-interested, comatose…you get my point?
I don’t think he’s even trying anymore. So Drew Carey, PLEASE give up your day job. It’s been six months and it’s just getting worse. Hell, even Marc Summers from Nickelodeon’s “Double Dare” would be WAY better… the Producers should have listened to their instincts.

It is so unfair how people are treated Drew carey. Sure he is not Bob Barker and no one will replace him. But Drew has his on style in doing things. For even sake stop comparing him with bob barker
Honestly? Marc Summers? Have you watched unwrapped lately? Or at all? The guy’s a robot. I mean, a very pleasant robot, and I’m sure he’s a great guy, but he hasn’t got the personality for this, at least not these days.
Anyway, Drew’s honestly doing a knockout job up there. The contestants love him, the audience loves him, and he’s genuine. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Bob was great, but he was also a bit patronizing from time to time. No fault to him, of course, that’s just how his generation is. But Drew sympathizes with the losers, celebrates with the winners, and just does a great job of making everybody feel comfortable around him.
Sure, I thought he was a terrible choice at first too, but look at the way he’s giving the show a second wind. Young and old are loving it now, and that’s an incredible achievement. Remember, it’s a thirty-six year old game show on in the middle of the day… the fact that anybody’s even talking about it — let alone actually trying to defend it from either side — is saying something.
I think it is time for drew leave cbs now.
