Geeky Drunk

‘Twas the Night Before CES and all through the CEA,
Not a computer was crashing, not even a PDA;
The displays were set up in Sands Expo with care,
In hopes that media and bloggers soon would be there;

The bloggers were busy with laptops in their beds,
While visions of new gadgets danced in their heads;
And with wifey already asleep, and me with notebook on lap,
I had just settled down for a final night cap;

When out on the interweb there arose such a clatter,
I put down my drink to see what was the matter;
Away to Windows Vista I flew like a flash,
Tore open the browsers and threw out the cache;

The alerts on Google Reader of the new-fallen gadgets,
Gave sudden resistance to my tech-buying habits;
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But miniature computers and wireless gear;

With little skinny LCDs, MIDS and UMPCs,
I knew in a moment it must be a good year for geeks;
More rapid than pop-ups the reports they came,
And they had pictures, and videos and more of the same;

From Engadget, to Switched, to SlashGear, to Slashdot,
And Gotta Be Mobile, Gizmodo, Digital Trends, and Tablet Blog;
The vast amount of sites reporting! The bloggers must be having a ball!
How jealous I am! Jealous I am! Jealous of them all!

As rar files downloaded on a fast connection fly,
When they meet with an unseeded torrent, crawl up and die;
So do the bloggers when all staying in the same hotel,
With such a huge demand they are in wireless hell.

And then, in a twinkling, one blogger heard on the roof,
The prancing and pawing of each little Verizon hoof;
It was that Verizon guy with his hundred pals around,
Making sure that those with Verizon cards could keep me sound.

The posts kept coming in, from twitters to vlogs,
And the announcements were cool, a good night for blogs;
A bundle of gadgets they had recently reviewed,
I knew I already had a pretty good preview.

The TVs - how skinny! The MIDS how merry!
The 150” plasma required mass Valium doses, a TV I want to marry!
The Laser TVs had the blackest blacks and were as white as the snow;
They were one of the most promising gadgets at the show.

The guys at Gizmodo were kinda smelly,
Especially when they turned off all of the teles;
Engadget worked quickly like little Christmas elves,
After posting one million CES pics they must be proud of themselves;

Scoble was on Mogulus all night long never going to bed,
It seemed like he had a few drinks, but I hope he was fed;
He spoke many words, and even did some TV work,
And updated the geeks, never seeming like a jerk;

And realizing it was almost morning, the wife’s coffee reaching my nose,
I decided I must get back to real life, so shut down the tablet and finally rose;

I laid down to bed to log in a few snores and whistles,
The dreams of gadgets in my head were firing off synapses like missiles;

CES 2008 is finally over and I can sleep long tomorrow night;
So, Happy CES 2008 to all, and to all a good-night.
